Standing Out At Prom

Among so many fabulous dresses at prom, you want to be noticed. Wanna know how you can set yourself apart from the rest of the girls at prom?

Class: Many girls are going for
classic strapless and open back dresses this prom season. If you want to stand apart from them, be unique and go for a Red Carpet worthy style. Set yourself apart with a sophisticated long-sleeved dress or an elegant, high neckline.

Royalty: Instead of a dress with a sexy cutout or a form fitting gown, try an ultra full ball gown. There are not many chances for you to play the part of a fairy tale princess, so why not take prom as your opportunity to be the belle of the ball.

Elegance: Instead of the traditional bright colored gowns, try out an elegant color like black, nude or white. A majority of prom goers this season will be in colorful dresses, so opting for a neutral color will help you stand out. Black and white dresses also have the added benefit of being reusable for other events, whereas you would be limited with a brightly colored dress.

Glow: Showcase your glowing skin in a high-low dress. These dresses are great for showing off a pair of dazzling heels or wrap-up gladiators. You’re sure to be the center of attention on the dance floor amongst the other floor length gowns.

Opt for one of these amazing styles this prom season to stand out from the crowd and make a statement!

One of the most difficult things when shopping for a dress is finding a dress that complements your body shape and make us look more feminine and beautiful. Here are some tips for the 5 main body shapes – hour glass, triangle, inverted triangle, square, and oval, that will make your life easier:

“Rectangular” body shape
First of all, you should define your waist so look for more “hourglass” type of dresses. Layer up a dress with a jacket or a cardigan to create dimension. Go bold with the prints and fabrics because you need to “add” to your body shape, not “take away”.

“Inverted Triangle” body shape
You should go for dresses with fuller skirts and avoid tight ones. Avoid puffy sleeves that draw attention to the upper part of your body and go for something sleeveless and tailored to your body. It’s important that the waistline of the dresses is just bellow the bust.

“Triangle” body shape
You need attention in your upper part so go for fitted tops or ones that have embelished necklines. You can substitute them with statement necklesses ot brooches. Go for A-shaped dresses that cover your wide hips but give you some structure in the upper body.

“Hourglass” body shape
This shape needs balance! Wear dresses with V-neck shapped neckline to make your upper part seem more small. Go for vertical stripes and dark colors. If your bust is smaller you can wear ruffled dresses and tops. If you want to draw attention to your curves, wear a peplum style skirt, or a body cone one.

The FIT

The fit of a prom dress is just as important as the style, color, or length. Some dress designs are intended to be worn loosely, but fitted prom dresses are designed to hug the curves and contours of the body.

A dress can completely cover the body from the shoulders to the ankles and have long sleeves, but still be one of the sexiest dresses on the floor because of its fitted design. The natural curves and lines of the body are emphasized in all of the right ways, if the dress is tailored and constructed well.

Spring time.....

Now that the dull and dreary winter weather is finally lifting, so are our spirits and we are definitely reflecting it in our spring wardrobe. We finally get to say goodbye to chunky knits, polo necks and jeans and replace them with a more romantic, feminine and flirty look. This spring is all about romance as well as striking colors and bold blooms, which will really transform your summer party look. At SpellBound we have come up with a list of our top floral flocks to help the transition into spring that much easier.

The floral applique dress
Perhaps the most romantic dress of all, and DEF my fav... Sherri Hill knows how to make a girl feel like a princess with 3d applique flowers and sparkly embellishment at the waist. The dreamy blush shade makes this dress one of our most romantic options!

The simple floral dress

One of the more simple floral options, but nonetheless a sweet and sophisticated style. Featuring a satin top, lace skirt and pink rosettes climbing the bodice and mimicking a rosebush. We love the prom-style skater dress and figure hugging bodice.

The floral dress for the rock chic

This dress lacks the romantic elements of other floral gowns, but is perfect for anyone wanting to wear this trend whilst still keeping it edgy. Featuring a long sleeve lace crop top with see-through arms and a cut out back and a long black satin skirt with red roses gradually printed throughout the skirt. Perfect for any edgy princess. TIP: To get the most out of this two piece and avoid only wearing it once try wearing the top with black high-waisted skinny jeans on a night out.

The Ultimate Guide to Prom Dress Care

The Ultimate Guide to Prom Dress Care | Pre Prom Prep | Faviana
Yes, prom is not as impactful as your wedding day but, it is still a very important milestone in your life. We know that you love your prom dress, and you want it to last an entire lifetime as a memory of your special occasion, so how do you ensure that it does? Caring for your dress is extremely important, We are here with our tips on preserving your prom dress for as long as your heart desires.
Wrinkles The Ultimate Guide to Prom Dress Care | Pre Prom Prep | Faviana
When you bring home your dress, make sure that you allow it room to breathe. Be sure that nothing is rubbing on the dress so that it does not wrinkle. If your dress does wrinkle, you need to make sure to get the wrinkles out before your special day. Most prom shops will give you a final steaming the day before your event. If not, call your local dry cleaner and see how much it would cost to get it pressed.

Another great trick is to put your dress on a hanger and hang it on the back of the bathroom door. Turn your shower water on the hottest temperature, close the bathroom door, and let it steam for about 15 minutes. The wrinkles will vanish.

Tip: If you decided to get a spray tan, do it a day or two before so you can wash it off the residue before you step into your beautiful gown. This will ensure less staining.  Also, pack a Tide stick in your prom clutch as they truly do work wonders and you can tackle the stain on the spot.
After your event and before you put your dress away into storage, be sure to get it dry cleaned first.  Store your dress in a cool and dry place and do not store anywhere damp or hot (as this may deteriorate or discolor your dress).  Also, try to not store your dress in areas that have a lot of natural sunlight, as that can severely discolor your dress over time.  Check your gown regularly to ensure that it is not damaged.  An excellent storage place is the top shelf of your closet.  Lay your dress flat in a sealed box or garment bag.  Places to avoid are attacks, basements and storage units.
Stains The Ultimate Guide to Prom Dress Care | Stains | Faviana

Stains are the worst! Treat your stain ASAP.

First, identify your stain.
  • Makeup → Dampen your stain using a warm towel and then lightly press a color safe bleach or liquid detergent into the stain. Wash the garment in warm water, and hang to dry.
  • Grass/Outdoor → Use alcohol to wipe off the fabric, then apply a chlorine bleach to your remaining stain (make sure it is color safe).
  • Grease → Wash the garment in warm water, place the stain down on paper towels and rub dry with liquid pretreatment spray. After this is complete, wash in warm water and hang to dry.
  • Sweat → Use a damp bar of soap on the stained area, then apply a liquid detergent to the stain and wash it.
At the end of the day, if your stain is really bad, we recommend bringing your dress to a professional. Just ask for a spot cleaning, it won’t hurt the pocket as much and it will ensure the life of your dress.

What Prom Dress Color is Right for You?

Ok, it’s almost time for prom — and here at #bespellbound we are constantly surrounded by gorgeous dresses (so we know your struggle with regards to choosing JUST ONE!). When picking your perfect prom look, be sure to go with the style that fits your body and color pallet best. This has everything to do with color as it does with cut. Also think about what overall look you’re going for: are you going for a glam or edgy prom dress? Maybe you’re more floral prom dress type of girl? Now, the real question: how do you sort through the endless array of colors that are available?
Anyone can wear any color they want, don’t let anyone tell you that you “can’t” wear something. That said, some colors are simply easier to pull off than others. There is a high chance that there will be one color that will not do anything for you, but fortunately there will be a few colors that will look absolutely fantastic; all depending on your personal color pallet, overall desired look, and preference. We have a few SpellBound prom tips that may help narrow down which colors complement, you, specifically.

Understanding Color

As we perceive them, colors elicit a range of emotions and visual effects from us. Red excites, while blue calms. These divergent effects can be attributed to these colors having different “temperatures”. The color wheel is divided into warm hues and cool hues. Generally, warm colors are reds, oranges and yellows which generate energy, and are associated with sunlight and heat. Cool colors are greens, blues, and purples which prompt serenity, and are associated with water and colder temperatures. Depending on how they are mixed or paired, colors relate to each other in different ways which have an even greater range of effects on the viewer.  Analogous colors, on the other hand, are next to each other on the color wheel.  They typically have the same temperature and produce harmony easily. This color coordination can be very pleasing to the eye if there is enough differentiation between the colors. Complementary colors are opposite from each other on the color wheel; one is warm and one is cool and therefore produce the highest contrast. If theses colors are balanced well in controlled amounts then the effect will be vibrant.
Perception is everything.  Too many similar colors will be perceived as too bland and boring. Unbalanced contrasting colors will be perceived as too chaotic and overwhelming. The most visually appealing color combinations are those that balance between warm and cool.

Go With “Your” Color

With color theory in mind, it is time to consider your personal color palette.
Skin tone plays a huge role in how a color looks on you. Rule of thumb; you shouldn’t go with the color that is the same as your undertone pigment but you should go with colors that have a similar temperature as your undertone. For example my skin has a yellowish undertone pigment cool undertone temperature so I shy away from most yellows or champagnes. However, I look great in cool jewel tones like sapphire and emerald.

Have Fun With It!

Ask yourself what color do you like best, which colors do your eyes naturally gravitate towards first?  More important than the color you choose to wear is how you feel in the dress that you pick. If you love how you look in red but this simple guide says you should wear cool tones just disregard it! If you feel like a million bucks you don’t need me to tell you what you should wear! Look for a dress that’s red carpet worthy and does you justice. A great tip for prom dresses: You wear the dress, the dress shouldn’t wear you!
Helpful Hint:  If you’re caught between two colors and you just can’t decide which one you like better, try the “3rd Party Test”. Show a friend or relative (who you know will give you a straight forward answer) your two color options and ask them which one they think would look best on you. Make sure not to ask which color they like better because their personal preference may affect the results of the test. If you feel a slight twinge of disappointed with his or her response, then you have your answer- it’s gotta be the other color!
